The Mathematics Department of Beijing University of Chemical Technology can be traced back to the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics established in 1978. The department currently has three first-class undergraduate majors in Beijing: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, and Information and Computational Science. The total enrollment quota for each major is about 100 people nationwide each year. In the first year of each major, a general category training method is adopted, and in the second year, specialized and modular training begins. In recent years, various majors in the Mathematics Department have continuously optimized their training plans and improved their talent cultivation levels. Professional students have repeatedly achieved excellent results in national mathematics and modeling competitions, and graduates have good development prospects. The graduation rate is high, and graduates who are directly employed have received widespread praise from employers.

In 2010, the Mathematics discipline was granted the right to confer a master's degree in the first-level discipline of Mathematics. In 2022, a doctoral program in the second-level discipline of Operations Research and System Control was independently established. After years of development, a relatively stable research field has been formed, recruiting master's students in areas such as operations research and combinatorial optimization, big data and artificial intelligence, optimal control and its applications, and maintaining a 100% employment rate for graduates for consecutive years. In recent years, this discipline has achieved a number of excellent research results in the fields of graph theory and combinatorial optimization, differential equations, stochastic analysis, big data and artificial intelligence, optimal control and its applications, and has published over 100 SCI papers. In the past five years, I have led more than 20 vertical projects, including general projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 20 horizontal projects funded by enterprises or governments. I have participated in 3 national key research and development programs and multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and have been granted 2 national invention patents.

This discipline has formed a scientific research team with middle-aged teachers as the core, young teachers as the main force, and a reasonable age structure. As of the end of February 2024, there are 50 teachers, including 7 professors, 25 associate professors, 1 expert with special allowances from the State Council, 3 teaching masters in Beijing (including 1 young teaching master), 1 outstanding educator in Beijing, 4 excellent guiding teachers in the Beijing University Mathematical Modeling Competition, 1 young talent in Beijing, 1 Humboldt scholar from Germany, 8 evaluation experts in the National University and Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, and 2 young reserve talents in the university. The team members are academically active and have a broad academic perspective. They maintain close academic cooperation and exchange with peers from well-known universities such as Georgia Institute of Technology, University of California, State University of New York, University of Georgia, and University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
